As senior leaders in the two parties trade barbs over the hudud issue, PAS Youth has met with DAP legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo to discuss the matter in a cordial manner.

At the meeting yesterday, Gobind stood firm on his party's stance.

The Puching MP explained to PAS Youth leader Suhaizan Kaiat why DAP opposed the legal amendments to pave the way for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan, which is slated to be tabled at the state’s legislative assembly on March 18.

However, Suhaizan believes there is still room for consensus and to reach a resolution to the argument.

"I am confident we will achieve the best solution for the hudud bill dispute.

"Although DAP remains with their stand, PAS Youth sees a big space for both to achieve consensus in the end," he told Malaysiakini when contacted today.

He said PAS Youth had arranged the meeting with the aim of clarifying the hudud law dispute between DAP and PAS.

"We want help to make the things simpler or easier for DAP and PAS to solve the problem.

"Hence, we will continue to meet with other DAP Youth leaders such as DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke and Liew Chin Tong to get their opinions," he added.

Pakatan leaders to discuss further

Suhaizan also said the Pakatan Rakyat leadership will have a meeting before March 18 and he is confident of achieving a consensus on that day.

However, the Pakatan secretariat has yet to decide on the date of the meeting.

Meanwhile, Gobind (left) told Malaysiakini that the meeting took place in Damansara and it lasted almost two and a half hours.

"I gave my reasons why DAP opposes the hudud law. As far as I am concerned, they (PAS Youth) understood why we object.

"I made our stand clear that we will not support the hudud bill because it is not in the Pakatan common policy framework," he said.

Gobind had warned PAS on Sunday that the Islamic party would be seen as opting out of the Pakatan coalition if the Kelantan government tables the amendment at the state assembly.
