PAS elections department director Nasrudin Hassan said DAP can cease its political cooperation with PAS at any time, as they have done so before.

"DAP has left PAS during the Barisan Alternatif era because they disagreed with the syariah criminal code promoted by PAS.

"Why should DAP threaten PAS now when they can leave us any time?

"(They should know that) hoping for PAS to divert its struggle from implementing Allah's laws is akin to waiting for a catfish to grow scales," said Nasrudin in a press release today.

Nasrudin, who is a member of PAS' ulama wing, was referring to recent statements by DAP legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo (right), who have warned PAS that implementing hudud law in Kelantan would void their commitment to the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Gobind had argued that hudud law was not part of Pakatan's common policy framework and by pursuing it would result in PAS isolating itself from the coalition.

Kelantan is set to table a bill to amend the Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment 1993 on March 18.

However, details of the amendments being sought are still sketchy, but will unlikely allow the state government to circumvent provisions in the Federal Constitution that prevents the implementation of hudud law.

Nasrudin (left) said DAP should accept that the desire to implement the enactment in Kelantan precedes Pakatan's formation.

He claimed that the matter has been explained to DAP several times and that the latter should accept the Pakatan leadership council's "agree to disagree" position.

"Thus DAP cannot compel PAS (to decide otherwise) but criticising us," he said.
