Has Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar lost his sense of priorities by setting up a special "sedition unit" while overlooking threats in the form of the Islamic State (IS)?

This was pondered aloud by DAP leader Lim Kit Siang today, in response to the establishment of the new unit, known as the D5, which comprise police personnel specialised in investigation sedition.

Lim believes that Khalid must be the "first head of police in any country" to set up such a unit.

"(It is) as if Malaysians have just set a new world record as the most seditious people in the world!” said the Gelang Patah MP.

"With the IGP’s eyes off the ball of the threat of IS, the Malaysian police have failed to give due and proper attention and priority to the extent that even a 14-year-old school girl could be influenced to attempt to join the IS terrorists.

"Has the IGP got a special unit to fight the IS threat in Malaysia and has he ever tweeted action to keep the threat of IS in check?"

IGP's obsession

Yesterday, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli said his statement over a comment he made on opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy conviction was recorded by a special unit to investigate sedition cases.

Commenting on the recent spate of arrests under sedition laws, Lim said statements by Pakatan leaders and activists may, to an extent, upset the political security of Barisan Nasional leaders, but "they do not threaten the security of the nation".

"The IGP’s obsession should be with the growing threats of IS in Malaysia and not the democratic exercise of the freedom of speech of Pakatan leaders and NGO activists.

"When will Khalid start focusing on the real criminals and the  IS, or  is  he influenced like the Prime Minister, Najib Abdul Razak who had a secret infatuation with IS which he accidentally made public at an Umno function last June?" asked Lim.

Najib, last year, had said that Umno must emulate the bravery of IS fighters in order to ensure that the party survives.
