Making Sodomy II prosecutor Muhammad Shafee Abdullah's roadshow on the verdict closed-door events does make it more palatable, says DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

Media were not allowed to report his talk at Permatang Pauh last night, unlike the open forum organised by Umno Youth on the same subject in Kelana Jaya last week.

“Shafee should know that his roadshow against Anwar is not less vile, vengeful and vindictive just because it is now closed-door not to be reported by the media.

“(This) actually makes it even more deplorable, despicable and unwarranted, as he would be able to get away with murder without fear of being challenged whether in the court of law or the court of public opinion,” Lim said in a statement.

At the Umno Youth forum which was also streamed live on the Akademi Kepimpinan Kapten Hussein (Akhi) website, Shafee (left) went into graphic details of the sodomy act between Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Shafee told the audience that this was part of 'in camera' testimony during the trial, which Anwar maintains is a political conspiracy.

Anwar is serving five years jail after the Federal Court upheld the guilty verdict against him on Feb 10.

Cowardly

Lim said Shafee's roadshows are “cowardly” because it attacks Anwar's character without allowing Anwar a chance to reply.

It is worse given that taxpayers are told that Shafee's fees are an official secret, he said.

“Are Umno leaders going to continue to allow Shafee to continue with his nationwide roadshow against Anwar?” Lim asked.

At the Umno Youth forum, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (right) said the wing invited Shafee to speak so he could “bring the truth” to counter conspiracy claims.

Khairy said BN will no longer keep silent on the charges of conspiracy, now that the case has been dealt with by the courts.

Deputy Finance Minister and Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan today said the roadshow was the initiative of NGOs and it has nothing to do with Umno or the government.
