PAS will be seen as opting out of Pakatan Rakyat if the PAS-led Kelantan government tables a bill to amend the hudud enactment in the state legislative assembly on March 18, DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo warned.

The state government aims to table the Bill to pave the way for a Private Member's Bill in Parliament to enable it to implement the Islamic penal code in Kelantan.

"If PAS carries on with the Hudud Bill, that would amount to an open and obvious move against the Pakatan Rakyat common policy framework.

"

If that be the case, those leaders in PAS who are behind this move must then be brave enough to acknowledge that they have pushed PAS to part ways with Pakatan Rakyat...," he said in a statement.

The tabling of the Bill also breaches an agreement between PAS, DAP and PKR leaders at the leadership council meet earlier this month that it should be discussed further before a decision is made, he said.

The Pakatan leadership council met after months of cold shoulders but deferred the decision on the hudud until after PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II verdict on Feb 10.

It has not met since then.

PAS VP: No in-fighting, please

Soon after the meeting, the Kelantan government announced that it will table the hudud bill in the legislative assembly - to the surprise of DAP leaders.

PAS leaders defended it, saying that DAP and PKR have no say in state matters, given that PAS holds all the Pakatan seats in Kelantan.

PAS and DAP have been at loggerheads over hudud and local council elections, which PAS opposes.

Yesterday, PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (right) urged PAS leaders to close ranks and erase faction lines drawn between those wanting to remain in Pakatan and those wanting to opt out.

He stressed that the PAS general assembly - the muktamar - had decided on the leadership of the ulama as well as to work within Pakatan Rakyat, and not Umno.

“So, no one should try to pit PAS leaders and members against each other with all sorts of allegations and create aspersions against party leaders. It will only harm the party and please our enemies,” he said in a statement.
