Penang Federal Action Council chairperson Zainal Abidin Osman have been asked to produce details concerning 34 projects approved by the 1Malaysia Maintenance Fund (TP1M) since 2012 as reported in the media recently.

State Housing and Town and Country Planning Committee chairperson Jagdeep Singh Deo said the reported number of projects clearly did not tally with the number of projects recorded by the Commissioner of Buildings of the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) and the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP).

"There were only two projects approved in 2013 and 13 in 2014, with the cost of between RM96,100 and RM1.9 million, which also involved state government's contribution of between 10 to 30 percent," he told reporters after the launch of Malaysia Property Exhibition by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in George Town today.

Jagdeep, who is DAP state representative for Dato Keramat, said according to MPPP and MPSP records, there were 129 projects left unapproved during the same period and Zainal Abidin should also provide explanation on that.

MPPP and MPSP had sent several letters to the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department requesting clarification on the status of the various TP1M project applications in Penang, but nothing had been forthcoming, he added.
