MP: Boycott KR1M as it’s more expensive

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the prices of most common products at the government-owned chain of convenience stores were more expensive than those in other hypermarkets.
“Would Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob now call on the rakyat to boycott this shop?” he said in a text message to Malaysiakini.
The DAP parliamentarian added that should Ismail Sabri Yaakob fail to respond within 24 hours whether he would call on the people to boycott KR1M. Otherwise, that would be proof that the minister’s boycott statement was “purely racial” and meant to gain political mileage.
Ismail had courted controversy when he asked the Malays to boycott Chinese traders for not lowering the prices of goods.
Lim, meanwhile, further queried whether the government would take action against KR1M for not lowering its prices.
“DAP will not ask consumers to boycott traders based on the prices, we would advise the rakyat to be wise consumers by comparing prices with other hypermarkets before buying the goods,” he said.
Pictures sent by Lim saw several marked differences in the prices of goods between that of KR1M’s and other hypermarkets.
A litre of bleach from Tesco costs RM1.29 while at KR1M, it costs RM2.60.
KR1M’s Nestle’s Bliss yogurt drink is at RM5.20 per bottle while Tesco’s is priced at RM4.79.
A pack of fries at a hypermarket costs RM4.49 while KR1M’s is 70 sen more expensive at RM5.20.
A bottle of dish washing liquid costs RM1.99 at a hypermarket while KR1M sells its dish washing liquid at RM2.90 per bottle.
Nevertheless, KR1M sells a bottle of Maggi’s chilli sauce at RM 2.65 while a hypermarket sells the same type of chilli sauce at RM2.89.
Tesco’s can of sardines, Campbell soup, and a pack of bihun (rice vermicelli), however, are only one sen cheaper than KR1M’s.
