Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will review fees for broadband packages in order to increase take up rate.

In a press release, MCMC chairperson Halim Shafie ( left ) said that this would also help stimulate the development of local content.

"MCMC is also planning to have series of discussion with the industry in the second quarter of this year regarding the retail price regulation.

"(This is to) ensure that the regulations remain current in view of the fast evolving communications and multimedia sector," he said, according to Bernama .

Last Friday, Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek had urged telecommunication companies to reduce the prices of broadband services.

However, Shabery said that he was merely urging telcos to do so and that it was not an instruction.
