BN waits for EC to confirm two by-elections

BN is still waiting for confirmation from the Election Commission (EC) on the status of the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in Penang and the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan, before taking any further action.
Dates for the impending Permatang Pauh and Chempaka polls must be set.

"We will wait for confirmation from the EC about the dates for the by-elections," BN chairperson and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak told reporters after chairing a BN supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur last night.
He said BN would study in detail the developments in the two constituencies and would not be hasty in making its decision.
"We will look at all aspects, taking into consideration our performance in Pengkalan Kubur when we won with an increased majority and our victory in Teluk Intan," he added.
The by-election for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat is expected following incumbent Anwar Ibrahim's (right) conviction for sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, by the Federal Court.
The verdict automatically disqualified Anwar, 67, as Permatang Pauh MP.
Meanwhile, the Chempaka state seat fell vacant with the death of Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat of prostate cancer on Thursday.
