Despite being jailed five years for sodomy, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make a public appearance at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, exactly a week after yesterday's controversial verdict.

This was confirmed with Malaysiakini today by his lawyer J Leela.

Anwar will be brought to testify in his RM100 million defamation suit against Foreign Minister Anifah Aman.

Besides Leela, Anwar's other counsel for the case will be Razlan Hadri Zulkifli.

Anwar has been asked to give his testimony again, following a claim by Anifah in his defence that he (Anifah) was offered RM100 million to persuade several BN federal lawmakers from Sabah to crossover to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat in the much-hyped Sept 16, 2008 saga.

The jailed opposition leader will be questioned specifically on this allegation alone before the case is closed for submissions as decided during the court proceedings last month.

Ironically, the person representing Anifah is Anwar's nemesis, senior lawyer Muhammd Shafee Abdullah, who represented the presecution in the Sodomy II trial before the the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.

This will set the stage for a showdown of sorts again between Anwar - this time on the witness stand - and Shafee.

Judicial commissioner Siti Khadijah S Hassan Badjenid is hearing the matter.

The trial began on Aug 25 last year with Anwar taking the stand as the plaintiff while the last defence witness was former deputy education minister Puad Zarkashi, who alleged  that Anwar had offered him the Johor menteri besar's post if he crossed over to Pakatan.

The PKR de facto leader filed the defamation suit against Anifah (right) on May 27, 2009, following Anifah's press conference in Washington with then US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Anifah said that Anwar attempted to buy over several MPs and had offered him the deputy prime minister’s post.

Anifah went on to testify in court during his defence that the offer was made through an intermediary, whom he identified as corporate player Ishak Ismail.

Anifah's testimony was highlighted by Umno president Najib Abdul Razak during an Umno general assembly, at which Najib described Anwar's alleged offer as ' the mother of all corruption'.

This prompted Anwar to demand for an apology from the PM.

Anwar has also filed other defamation suits, one of these against Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and another against Senator S Nallakaruppan.

Shafee is appearing for both Khairy and Nallakaruppan in the suits.

These cases have yet to be heard in court.
