The Special Commission on the Royal Malaysian Police will present its first report to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail at the Istana Negara on Friday.
The Special Commission on the Royal Malaysian Police will present its first report to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail at the Istana Negara on Friday.
According to Bernama today, commission secretary Hamzah Md Ros said the report, covering feedback collated in the first six months of the year, would be presented by chairperson Mohamad Dzaiddin Abdullah.
He said the report will include several suggestions on how to improve the police force as instructed by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Hamzah said a copy of the report will also be presented to the premier but added that as the document was a work in progress, it would not be made public.
"It's still categorised as secret and the government will decide whether it should be made public or not," he added.
Special committee
The commission was set up on the instructions of the premier.
The 16-member commission, headed by former chief justice Mohamad Dzaiddin, was tasked to provide recommendations on how to improve the police force.
The commission has also embarked on a nationwide tour to collect feedback and complaints from the public regarding the police.
Human rights organisations have accused the police of being trigger-happy, unprofessional and high-handed.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said part of the commission's findings and action to be taken based on public inquiries would only be presented in the final report next February.
He said the commission had also set up a special committee, headed by commissioner and Transparency International Malaysia president Tengku Abdul Aziz Tengku Ibrahim, to handle corruption cases.
He said the committee was formed after the commission's meeting last week which included the participation of Anti-Corruption Agency officers and those from the Bukit Aman disciplinary unit.
