The do-gooder known for the controversial dog-patting event is auctioning a date with himself on Feb 12 to the three highest bidders, this time to aid his latest project – Kelantan post-flood assistance.
The auution is part of an initiative by Rakyat4Rakyat, a grassroots initiative which saw tonnes of emergency food and medical aid transported to the east coast at the height of the floods.
"Syed Azmi (right) enjoys long walks on the beach, fresh smell of grass after the rain and...OK, maybe it's not that kind of date.
"We, friends of Syed Azmi will like to auction him for a dinner date with Top 3 of the highest bidder. All proceeds from the bid will go for charity purposes.
"If you would like to pick Azmi's brains, spend some time with him over good quality food at Skohns Canteen, send your bid via PM at this page.Good company, good food, all for a good cause. Start bidding!" the post on the Rakyat4Rakyat website reads.
Those keen should hurry along though and start reaching deep into their pockets, as bidding closes at 11pm Feb 8 and the highest bidder as at 7.50pm is a whopping RM1,500.
Bidding can be done via sending a private message to the administrator of the group's Facebook page.
Reviving local business
Among the team’s upcoming projects is to get "real food" for some 200 families in Manek Urai who have had enough of canned sardines since floods hit in December.
"We need to revive business back in Kelantan, for them to start back rebuilding their state on their own. Hmm, tough.
"So the team decided to buy chicken, meat, eggs and fish from the local farmers and have them giving out portions of raw food depending on family size enough for them to eat that day, pass a portion to their neighbours and keep some for the next day, just literally one day meal for them and their family, funded by us the public.
"We buy from the local farmers, fisherman and such. We ask them to open a booth at our free market in Manek Urai for the family to choose. Business given, food given. InsyaAllah a good cycle," he wrote on Facebook.
The money from bids for a date with Syed Azmi were initially meant to purchase a hospital bed for a woman with a prolapsed disc, still living in a temporary hut after her home was damaged.
"I maybe a laughing stock now, but generally I am upset. This girl must be in the same condition ever since, why till now no help?!
"So please, I beg you, do bid. If not for dinner, do it for this girl. Please."
However, the team managed to raise enough funds to buy the 34-year-old a bed 17 minutes after Syed Azmi's Facebook posting so the funds for the Free Market project in Manek Urai.
"Funding is still much needed. So if you believe in me and my team and love this project, join us or donate."
