Pakatan Rakyat today responded with a general statement supporting Negaraku patron Ambiga Sreenevasan's call for national reconciliation but did not indicate that it will renew efforts to reach out to BN.

Anwar, after chairing the Pakatan leadership council meeting today, said: "Pakatan supports all steps for political parties and NGOs to form consensus in finding solutions to current issues particularly on the economy and racial tension".

Asked after the press conference if Pakatan will write formally to BN to offer national reconciliation, Anwar said the offer had already been made in the past.

"We support... but we have already issued a statement much earlier, since August last year (sic) (2013)," he said.

Yesterday, Ambiga called (right) the ruling coalition, opposition and NGOs to close ranks to resolve critical issues plaguing the country.

She pointed out joint efforts were required to resolve the country's economic woes and the devastation in the east coast due to the worst flooding in the country's history.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and PAS's central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa who were present during Ambiga's call had likewise supported her.

Lim yesterday pledged to bring the issue to the Pakatan leadership council today.

Both Najib and Anwar had called for national reconciliation at different times in 2013 but there were no concrete efforts to see it through between two rival coalitions.

Ambiga yesterday said on her part, she will propose to NegaraKu to formally reach out to both sides of the political divide for national reconciliation.
