PAS and DAP's tit-for-tat over the latter's local government elections bid continued today after PAS vice president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man asked DAP to bring their local election ambitions to Parliament instead of taking it through the court.

 

DAP's local elections bid for the state of Penang was thrown out by the Federal Court last year, while PAS had been trying to push its hudud ambitions for Kelantan in the form of a private member's bill in Parliament.

 

And now, Tuan Ibrahim has asked DAP to follow PAS' footsteps if the former believes that local government elections would boost democracy.

 

"Maybe they should bring a private bill, as that is also a part of democracy," he said in a statement.

 

He said that PAS was ready to face rejection by bringing the private member's bill on hudud and that DAP must be prepared to do the same.

 

"Plus, the chances of a PAS MP voting in favour of a DAP bill is higher than the chances of DAP MP voting for a PAS bill on hudud," he said.

 

PAS had been criticising the local government elections bid for the past week, claiming that it too was not wholeheartedly agreed to by Pakatan, just like PAS' hudud bid.

 

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( left ) even went to the extent of warning that racial riots, one like May 13, could happen if local government elections proceed.

 

"Bringing this to Parliament is way better than squabbling in the media, and criticising those who raise doubts about the negative impacts of a local election," he said.
