Palanivel keeps reshuffling for MIC's 'greater good'

Embattled MIC president G Palanivel continues to bulldoze his agenda by making new appointments despite the Registrar of Societies (ROS) not recognising the earlier changes.
Embattled MIC president G Palanivel continues to bulldoze his agenda by making new appointments despite the Registrar of Societies (ROS) not recognising the earlier changes.
In the latest reshuffle, vice-president M Saravanan (right), who has been one of the president's staunchest critics, was axed as Federal Territories MIC liaison committee chief.
He would be replaced by Rajoo Vyraperumal, who used to be Saravanan's number two. His post would be filled by G Nedunchelian.
Palanivel also made changes in Perak, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
"All the appointments take effect immediately and I have issued letters to all concerned which will be received by them in due course," he said in a statement.
Vice-president S Sothinathan (left), who is seen to be in Palanivel's camp, was dropped as the Negri Sembilan state liaison committee chairperson. He was replaced by Ganesan Arumugam.
"Sothinathan had very magnanimously agreed to relinquish his position at my request to concentrate at the national level," said Palanivel.
The president reiterated his stand earlier this month that the changes in positions were being implemented by him in stages for the “greater good of the party”.
"Beginning of this year, I had announced that I will be introducing changes in MIC in stages for a vibrant, dynamic and focused vision for the Indian community in Malaysia," he said.
On Jan 2, Palanivel announced that he was appointing G Kumar Aaman as the secretary- general replacing A Prakash Rao and made changes to several other positions as well.
However, the move was rendered invalid by ROS, which has ordered MIC to hold re-elections for several posts.
Samy Vellu: Please save MIC
In a related development, former MIC president S Samy Vellu urged party president G Palanivel to save the party.
"I pray ... and ask him, please save MIC," he said.
Samy Vellu, who is the special envoy to India and South Asia on infrastructure, said the lack of unity in MIC might diminish and adversely affect the party which represented Malaysian Indians.
He recalled that during his tenure as the president, a lot of people were against him and they held many press conferences and organised meetings to criticise and attack him.
"I called them and talked to them and made them my friends. This is politics. As politicians we must show our kindness to others to pull them to us," he said.
