On Feb 10, the nation's apex court will reveal if Anwar Ibrahim is to be incarcerated once again or exit the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya as a free man.

With some two weeks before the Federal Court reveals its verdict, both key figures in the case appear to have placed their fates in the hands of god.

In a statement issued today, Anwar said he is hoping that divine intervention would ensure that justice is done and that he would be acquitted.

"I pray to Allah, who is most compassionate, that justice will be served and I will be freed.

"Lies should not be used as a tool in a political bout or be given the space to create chaos in the country," he added.

The PKR de facto leader, 67, was charged with sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur between 3.15pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

Like his first sodomy charge, Anwar has claimed that the second too had been fabricated by his political rivals. The government has denied this.

The opposition leader also expressed confidence in securing an acquittal due to the sound arguments put forth by his defence team, led by ex-Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram, during his final appeal hearing last year.

Anwar was convicted of the offence and sentenced to five years imprisonment. The prosecution has appealed for a heavier sentence.

Saiful: I'll accept whatever decision

Meanwhile, Saiful too turned to god upon hearing news of the court's upcoming verdict, which was announced by the Federal Court Registrar on twitter this afternoon.

The former aide said seven years had passed and he would accept whatever decision made by the court.



"As the complainant, I accept whatever decision. I leave it to Allah.

"As a citizen,I believe in the Rukunegara principle and that truth will prevail.

"I will continue to pray, be patient and remain steadfast," he posted on Twitter.
