PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's invoking May 13 as one reason why DAP should back off from supporting local elections has invited brickbats from both political divides. 

The latest missive came from former Umno supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah, who in his tweet, sarcastically termed the veteran Islamist leader as "the people's saviour".
 
Saifuddin, the Global Movement of Moderates CEO, put out this biting post on Twitter: "Hadi says women cannnot be MB; it'll save us from hell.
 
“Now, he says no to local government elections; it'll save us from May 13 race riots. He certainly is a saviour of the people!”


Hadi, a former Terengganu MB, unlike many of his Pakatan allies, was a key opponent of PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new Selangor MB replacing Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said that Wan Azizah was not capable of even answering questions in Parliament as an MP, let alone run Selangor.
 
The PAS president also received a lot of flak yesterday for saying DAP's urging for a third vote may result in another May 13, as such ideas bring "instability, widen the gap between villages and towns" and build up tension, leading to ethnic killings.
 
Ironically, Hadi finds support in BN's Housing, Local Government and Urban Well-being Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
 
Today, NGO Coalition on Good Governance questioned whether the delay in holding local government elections in Selangor was due to Hadi.
 
One of Saifuddin's followers jokingly said the former deputy minister has to be careful. “Hadi, as a religious scholar, cannot be criticised as calamity would befall. *sarcasm.”
