The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has categorically refused to recognise new appointments made by MIC president G Palanivel unless the party's re-election issue is solved.

In a letter sent to the MIC yesterday, which was reported by the Tamil media, the ROS rejected MIC secretary-general G Kumar Aaman's request for a meeting with the registrar.

"ROS is not in the position to recognise any new appointment until the current dispute regarding the positions of the central working committee (CWC) members is resolved," ROS said in the letter.

MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam (left) confirmed the authenticity of the letter.

"I can confirm there was a letter from the ROS that no new appointments should be made without resolving our issues first," Subramaniam said.

"All appointments made during this period shall be considered null and void. So, this raises a question as to whether the new appointees can make decisions as office-bearers," he added.

The letter effectively puts paid to MIC secretary-general G Kumar Aaman's appointment to the position by Palanivel, who also changed his CWC line-up and the party strategic director in a supposed reshuffle weeks after the ROS re-election order was made.

With more than half of the 90 days given by the ROS to conduct re-elections having passed, there are still no signs that Palanivel is ready to call for the party polls to be conducted again.

And Subramaniam, who previously said that he considered the "window for discussion" with Palanivel (right) as having closed after being stood up twice by his party president, said that party leaders would make another attempt at engaging Palanivel after the latter returns from another overseas trip.

"He is overseas now. We will wait for him to return, and make another attempt. We are very concerned (by the lack of time left)," he said.

Palanivel - despite being a cabinet minister - missed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's special address announcing the Budget 2015 revisions in Putrajaya today.
