Saiful livid with TV3 over Anwar coverage
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's appearance on TV3 has irked his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's appearance on TV3 has irked his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
In a blog post today, Saiful revealed an instruction purportedly from a TV3's "big boss" last November to cover PKR's attack on former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.
The instruction stating "must cover and use" was given to Saiful's wife Nik Suryani Megat, then a TV3 staff, by an editor of the Umno-linked television station.
"I thought it was only once, but it is happening often," Saiful wrote following Anwar being given air time on TV3 again.
He was referring to the opposition leader's claim yesterday of possessing " solid evidence " of Daim allegedly abusing his position to amass wealth.
Apart from TV3, this was also reported by other Umno-linked media such as Utusan Malaysia and New Straits Times .
The attacks on Daim, who is a close associate of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has been linked to the pair's criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Saiful said he was not questioning TV3's motive in attacking Daim, but rather the station's move to provide coverage for PKR.
"Is there nobody among your own people who has the courage to expose (Daim's alleged wrongdoings)?
"The other day it was (PKR vice-president) Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and now Anwar," he said.
Saiful also said this was one of the reasons for his wife quitting TV3 by accepting the mutual separation scheme (MSS).
He added that his wife, whose last day at TV3 was on Dec 15, felt "disgusted" after being instructed to cover Shamsul's press conference to "stab a personality she admires".
He said his wife made the drastic and risky decision because one must lead a principled life.
Anwar has been convicted of sodomising Saiful and is currently awaiting the verdict of his final appeal at the Federal Court.
