Pro-Pakatan Rakyat blogger Yusuf Siddique Al-Suratman, known by his blog name 'Milosuam', was today jailed for two years pending appeal, after being found guilty of causing fear among the people with a blog posting in 2013. 
 
Yusuf was in June 2013 charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for publishing an alleged secret document that showed the police to be preparing for the possibility of an intrusion into Sabah.

Just before the 2013 general election, Yusuf published a supposed internal police memo warning of possible chaos to be caused by 1,500 foreigners in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau in Sabah.

The sentence on Yusuf was the maximum jail term under that particular provision of the Penal Code. However, a stay of sentence has been granted pending appeal.

He is the second Pakatan-linked blogger to be jailed in just two weeks.

Amizudin Ahmat (right), who blogs as 'SharpShooter', was on Jan 8 jailed for three months for contempt of court for articles against former information, communication and culture minister Rais Yatim.

Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code pertains to; intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquility.

Yusuf was initially probed for breaching the Official Secrets Act (OSA) but was eventually charged under the Penal Code.

Legal aid group Lawyers of Liberty had in the past questioned the government's move to charge Yusuf in the Sabah Magistrate Court in Kota Kinabalu although he was from Selangor and the blog post was made while he was here.
 
Yusuf, 29, was represented by counsel Goldam Hamid, while magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr presided.
