Lawyer Eric Paulsen has accepted the suggestion for a televised debate with the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
In a tweet today, the Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director accepted the call made by Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
"I gladly accept the invitation to debate," Paulsen said.
This morning, Shabery (right) mooted the debate as an avenue for Paulsen to explain his earlier tweet.
“I would agree if Jakim consents to debate with Eric (Paulsen), to go to any television station and explain what he meant by his statement,” the minister said.
The lawyer is being investigated under the Sedition Act following his tweet last Friday, which accused Jakim of promoting extremism in its Friday sermons.
The tweet has since been deleted.
Paulsen was detained for 48 hours to facilitate investigations and released on police bail yesterday.
