Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin said today former finance minister Daim Zainuddin and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not "stoop so low" to launch personal attacks on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This is despite the mainstream media, especially TV3, allegedly launching attacks against Daim for his recent criticisms of the Najib administration.

Zainuddin claimed that TV3 was "personally attacking" Daim. Previously, veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin had accused the state-controlled mainstream media of doing the same.

Kadir, in a blog posting two days ago, also warned Najib's "propaganda officers" to keep in mind that Daim and Mahathir could have "juicier" information about Najib in their hands if the officers were under the impression that they had information against Daim.

Both Daim and Mahathir have been critical about Najib's policies.

Even if they do possess such damaging information, Zainuddin (left) said, he believes Daim would not cross certain lines.

"They are leaders respected by Malaysians and the international community. They will not stoop so low to reveal ‘juicy’ information about Najib, as Kadir had claimed," he said.

Kadir had warned in his posting earlier that the attacks on Daim by Media Prima could come back to haunt Najib and further tarnish the PM's credibility.

Zainuddin said that while Najib had the right to reply to the criticism, the Umno-linked media should not be used to commence personal attacks against his critics.

"It's as though Najib is at war with Daim and Mahathir," he mused.
