MP causes scene over RM10 parking fee

In the video posted by pro-Umno page MyKMU.net today, DAP’s Tanjong MP caused a scene and refused to pay a RM10 parking fee at Penang Times Square.
Ng confirmed the incident happened on Jan 9.
"Call your manager. This is a public place," he is shown ordering a man wearing what looked like a police uniform.
The man had urged him to lodge a report at the management office but when Ng refused, the man threw the parking ticket back at Ng.
"You’re drunk," the man accused Ng when the MP told him to "follow the law".
Ng was shown fuming when he picked up the ticket from the floor.
"He parked at the basement and the rate is RM10 there, so he has to pay. But when we tried to explain he attacked us," a woman was heard saying.
Malaysiakini’s checks on the Penang Times Square website shows that the basement parking rate for 10pm to 6am is RM10 per entry, while the rate at different part of the complex is RM5 per entry.
'I feel cheated'
However, in a Facebook posting dated Jan 10, Ng insisted that he was overcharged and that the sign on the autopay machine said the fee should be RM5 per entry for 10pm to 6am
"I entered the basement carpark at 10.03pm and left the wedding dinner around 10.30pm last night (Jan 9).
"When you slot in the parking ticket and the display panel shows that (you) must pay RM10, what would be your first feeling? Will you feel cheated?" Ng asked.
He said the staff had told him to check the parking fees at the basement parking but this did not make sense.
"One complex with two parking rates, and the different rate is not displayed on every payment machine."
He said the police officer showed him his identity card "like (he) wanted to arrest" him and "shouted" at him while insisting he pay the RM10.
The parking attendant then allowed Ng to leave the complex without paying but he insisted to pay RM5.
"The police supposedly have to be neutral but they seem to have taken sides in this case.
"If they can treat an MP like me with this high-handed attitude, I cannot imagine what will happen to an ordinary citizen like you and the others?" he asked on Facebook.
In a comment on Ng's post, Penang Times Square apologised and said it will display all rates on the autopay machines.
"Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused and we give you our word that rectification will be done immediately," it said.
Ng also posted a message sent to him by the mall's general manager CC Yeap apologising for the staff's "rudeness".
