Activist Marina Mahathir was not allowed to enter a public university after an invitation to speak by students.

The students who invited her were told by the Student Affairs Department that she cannot enter the campus, she said.

"That makes it the fifth time I’ve been 'banned' from a public university. I must be damned powerful," she said in a Facebook posting.

"It’s ok. Tomorrow, I’m going to speak at a private college and the students from the public university who had to cancel my invitation have a standing invitation from me to come and have a chat anytime."

She said she was never "disinvited" when her father Dr Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister.

"How come now?"

When asked, she declined to reveal which university barred her from entering, to avoid repercussions on the students.

However, she noted that the programme is not religious in nature.

Marina last month spoke at a forum at the Universiti Malaya law faculty.

UM staff, however, received a circular prohibiting them from organising political activities.

When contacted, UM vice-chancellor Mohd Amin Jalaludin said that academic freedom at UM is guaranteed despite the circular.
