The entire RM8.24 billion parked at the Cayman Islands has been brought home, 1Malaysia Development Bhd chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy said.

"Following a commitment made by the chairman of the board of directors in a statement dated Dec 23 last year, 1MDB can confirm that it has now redeemed in full the US$2.32 billion (RM8.24 billon) invested by the company in a Cayman Islands registered fund," he said in a statement.

"1MDB hopes that the redemption of these funds, in full, draws a line under this matter."

1MDB had earlier repatriated RM4.3 billion (US$1.2 billion) of the funds and was under pressure to explain why it did not bring the remainder home given that it is missing debt payments.

The funds were initially invested into a joint venture with Saudi Arabian company PetroSaudi but it this was turned into a loan for PetroSaudi when the venture was dissolved.

The loan was paid in full with interest 2011 and invested in the Cayman Islands.

1MDB chairperson Lodin Wok Kamaruddin earlier said that 1MDB could not repatriate the funds in full due to currency fluctuations.
