Rapid KL's LRT service for the Kelana Jaya line resumed to normal at 5.30pm today, following swift repair works by its engineering team.

Services were disrupted at 2.30pm after some debris from a construction site near the Kerinchi station had fallen on the track, causing damage to the infrastructure and signalling system.

The last carriage which had operated on the damaged track saw a bumpy ride for commuters.

A commuter on the train that ran over the debris, related how she had heard a loud cracking noise as it approached the Universiti station from the Kerinchi station.

The commuter, who did not want to be named, said the two-coach train managed to pull into the Universiti station, but doors remained closed for several minutes as LRT staff hurried out to see what had happened.

The commuters were subsequently asked to vacate the train, she noted.

A Prasarana spokesperson told Malaysiakini that the LRT had to alternate on one side of the track while the other side was closed for repair works, which caused long delays for those still wanting to use the line.

Commuters had then been advised to seek alternative transportation as the repair works were initially expected to finish much later at 9pm.

"We would like to extend our deepest apologies to our customers," Rapid KL said in a statement after the incident.

“We would also like to thank the engineering team for their swift response in managing the situation and bringing back normal service,” it added.
