The prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor today urged parents to save money for investment so that they would not need to rely solely on government scholarships for their children.

Speaking  at launch of the Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB2) scheme for Permata children, Rosmah urged parents to invest in the fund for their children's future.

"Don't just rely on the government, we (parents) are also responsible for giving the best to our children," she told parents in Putrajaya today.

Rosmah lamented that despite the large number of scholarships prepared by the government, it is often blamed when people couldn't get them.

"If (people) don't get, they blame the government, If (they) get only a little, they blame the government.

"I always follow my husband to meet students overseas, What is the problem? There are not enough scholarships," she said.

She said under the special scheme for Permata children, account holders will be given a starting fund of RM100 by ASB2.

Rosmah, who is the patron of Permata, also shared that it that it took her some effort to convince her husband, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, to secure the RM1.5 million in total funds for Permata.

"It was not easy for me, even Najib said:  'When you follow me to functions, you are clever in seeking opportunities’.

"But I said this is not for me, it is for the children of Permata," she said.

Permata is an early childhood education scheme under the Prime Minister's Department.
