EC: Proposed Sarawak seats can be used in state polls

The exercise can be wrapped up and presented to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by March if there are no objections, EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told Bernama.
"To date, EC has not received any protest or proposal from any quarters qualified to do so as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," Abdul Aziz was quoted as saying.
The new electoral map is on display from Jan 5 to Feb 4, but Sarawak PKR and electoral watchdog NGO Bersih say not enough details is provided on the new borders.
The Sarawak legislative assembly must be called by June 2016.
The 11 new proposed state constituencies are N13 Batu Kitang, N17 Stakan, N18 Serembu, N23 Triboh, N26 Gedong, N40 Kabong, N57 Telian, N63 Selirik, N66 Murum, N70 Samalaju and N78 Long Lama.
In a special interview with the media in June last year, Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem did not rule out that the state election may be held earlier than the term limit.
Abdul Aziz said the EC will only review objections by quarters qualified to file such objections.
He said among the quarters allowed to object is the state government, local government or a group of individuals comprising 100 people or more who are voters in the affected constituency.
The EC chief added that the date for the re-delineation's notice of gazette for Parliament seats as well as state seats in Sabah and and peninsula Malaysia has yet to be decided.
"We are still waiting for the floods situation (in the east cost) to recover fully, now is not a suitable time," he said.
The gazette was planned for December last year but was postponed after the country's faced its worst flooding in decades.
The last re-delienation exercise was conducted in 2003. The exercise must be initiated every eight years.
