Flood waters rose again in Kemaman, Terengganu displacing a further 125 people from 37 families, prompting the reopening of three evacuation centres, Bernama reported.

Malaysia is facing a second surge of monsoon from today til Friday, after a short respite which allowed most of the roughly 200,000 affected to return to home.

Water rose in the lower parts of Kemaman, the newswire reported due to heavy rains and high tide.

Two roads in Kemaman have been closed to all traffic as they were inundated when water from the rivers nearby overflowed their banks this afternoon.

According to the spokesman of the National Security Council (MKN) Terengganu, the roads were Jalan Lubuk Lesong going to Kampung Pelantoh which was closed to all vehicles as the road was under 0.4 meter of water.

Meanwhile, the stretch of road at the Teladas-Air Putih Bridge in Kampung Teladas was also closed as it was under 0.8 meter of water.

Water levels in several major rivers in Terengganu such as Sungai Kemaman and Sungai Tebak in Kemaman; Sungai Berang in Hulu Terengganu and Sungai Besut in Besut were also on the rise but so far they were still at the alert stage.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorology Department issued an orange level heavy rain alert in all districts in Terengganu and the condition was expected to persist until tomorrow.
