More than 100 retail outlets looted in Temerloh

A number of shops in Temerloh were looted during and soon after the floods hit the Pahang town, but the thieves and burglars were not looking for food.
Instead, they targeted pricey goods such as computers, drills, and cookers.

According Kwong Wah Daily, a person in-charge at the Super Cowboy Supermarket in Temerloh revealed that more than a hundred business premises in the town were plundered during the floods, including his outlet.
Among those looted were a tyre shop, a fruits wholesaler, a number of coffee shops, a Marrybrown restaurant as well as several 7-Eleven convenience stores.
The most appalling instance was when 30 men armed with knives confronted eight security guards at Super Cowboy and forced them to open the gates into the outlet, Kwong Wah Daily reported.
"We are not sure if the outlet owner has lodged a police report, therefore we made a report to the police in Termeloh on Jan 2," the person in-charge said.
Supermarket's patrol lifeboats too taken away
Prior to it, he added, the Super Cowboy bought two lifeboats and hired three security personnel and three staff members to patrol around the premises during the flood.
However, the robbers came and pillaged later. As a result, three of the staff members were robbed, and the robbers also carried away goods from the supermarkets in the lifeboats.
Checks conducted by the staff from the Super Cowboy headquarters, he said, revealed that most of the goods taken away were not food items.
The robbers took electronic devices, such as computers, drills and rice cookers, which he said are pricey items.
"I have no idea what kind of society we are in now.
"The police in Temerloh did not act after being informed of the robbery on the first day itself. Only after a police report was lodged did a few police personnel patrol the area in a speedboat, ” he lamented.
According to Oriental Daily, the robbery at Super Cowboy took place on Dec 27.
The robbers were outsiders, not local residents,the paper said, adding that the situation was "out of control" as even bystanders joined the robbery later.
The looters came to the premises by different means, the daily said.
Some carried a small boat by car to the flooded area and used the boat to run away after their robbery, while some sneaked in through the roof and others came in a lorry to cart away the goods.
