PBB expected to get lion's share of new S'wak seats

With the proposed 11 state seats now being displayed, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) - which is the backbone of the state government - is expected to get the lion’s share of the new seats at the expense of Sarawak BN’s three other component parties.
PBB can form the next state gov't if it wins all the seats, an observer notes.

“PBB is expected to get Stakan, Serembu, Triboh, Gedong, Kabong, Tellian and Long Lama, because these areas are strongholds of PBB,” said a political observer.
Selirik and Murum are likely to go to Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), while Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) may be given the Batu Kitang seat, and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) the Samalaju seat, he added.
The observer, who did not wish to be identified, noted that PBB currently has 35 seats, and with the seven seats - assuming it would win all of the seats - PBB would then have 42 state seats, one simple majority.
The next state assembly will have 82 seats.
“By itself, PBB can form the next state government, and the three component parties will be at its mercy,” said the observer.
Asked to comment on this possibility, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said that PBB, on the surface, would be doing a lot of injustice to other component parties if it got more seats.
PBB predicted to split up 'any time now'
“It is one way how the Election Commission (EC) is helping BN to win more seats, and (more specifically) in this case, PBB,” he said.
PBB could - if it wanted - form a government without having to go for a coalition with other parties, provided it would stay united, he said.
Chong, who is the Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyperson, predicted that PBB would split up any time now, due to some young and ambitious PBB leaders who wanted to replace Adenan Satem as chief minister.
Adenan (left) - who has no grassroots support - was personally picked by former chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud to replace him in February last year, much to the dissatisfaction of leaders like PBB senior vice-president Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, PBB Deputy President I Alfred Jabu Anak Numpang, PBB Deputy President II Abang Johari Tun Openg and senior PBB leader and Works Minister, Fadillah Yusof.
“To me, it is a matter of time that PBB will split,” Chong added.
Commenting on the same issue, Sarawak PKR vice-chairperson See Chee How said it was for sure, that PBB would get the lion’s share of the new seats.
“This is surely beyond Adenan. If he is wise, he will give more to the coalition partners and stop BN parties from backstabbing each other.
“But then, he will suffer the wrath of his own party,” said See, who is the Batu Lintang state assemblyperson.
