Electoral watchdog Bersih has never been satisfied with any redelineation proposals, the Election Commission laments.

First it wants the redelineation process to be the sped up, but now it is saying the EC is rushing the process for Sarawak, EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Yusof said.

"Late last year they (Bersih) were angry and asking why (the redelineation process) is so slow.

"We are doing it now, but they say it is rushed. This is ridiculous,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

The Sarawak election is on June 22, 2016, he said, so the redelineation process can be done any time before that.

Bersih in a press statement today questioned the proposal Sarawak electoral map proposed by the EC which was displayed yesterday,  which includes 11 new state seats.

"Bersih questions why the EC must start the redelineation process in a rushed manner when the nation is focused on reconstruction after the floods," it said.

The process can still be postponed by a month or two from now, Bersih said.

"Is this a plot by the EC to avoid national attention and maximum scrutity on the Sarawak redelineation?” it asked.

It also questioned the malapportionment in the redelineation.

In response, Abdul Aziz said it is best for Bersih to make a formal complaint to the Sarawak EC director.
