In the latest episode, R Ramanan claimed that the Registrar of Societies (ROS) will no longer entertain letters from MIC regarding irregularities in the 2013 party polls.
The former central working committee (CWC) member said this was purportedly mentioned in a letter sent by the ROS to the MIC headquarters this afternoon.
Ramanan told reporters that he was briefed on the details of the letter by those close to the secretary-general.
"The ROS has said that the explanations given in its previous letter to MIC were adequate and that it will not entertain any more letters from MIC.
"This effectively means we need to start following the ROS' directives," he added.
Palanivel had sent a letter to the ROS on Jan 2 requesting for a time extension from to conduct the re-elections.
A check by Malaysiakini revealed that the ROS had sent the letter this afternoon.
Uproar in MIC
There has been an uproar in MIC, following Palanivel's actions in engaging the ROS on his own along with Senator V Subramaniam instead of deputy president S Subramaniam, which is mandated by the party.
Party members were unaware of Palanivel's (right) meeting with the ROS on Dec 24, during which they had sent a letter on behalf of the party without the knowledge of many of its members.
The ROS replied to the letter on Dec 31, and MIC replied to that letter again on Jan 2.
Top members - apart from Palanivel and his close circle - remain in the dark about the contents of these letters being exchanged between MIC and the ROS.
The ROS had, on Dec 5, ordered MIC to re-elect its CWC and vice-president posts within 90 days of the letter being issued.
In his latest letter, Palanivel had requested for an extension of 30 days to comply with the directive, even though the letter purportedly maintained that MIC refuses to admit to the irregularities during the party polls last year.
