The number of flood evacuees at the relief centres in four of the flood-hit states dropped to 34,260 tonight, down from 38,332 earlier in the evening.

As at 9.30pm, 4,072 flood victims in Pahang were allowed to return home in stages since evening.

The flood situation in the state continues to improve as the number of evacuees at the relief centres dropped to 22,896 from 27,073 this evening.

A spokesman from the Pahang police contingent headquarters' flood operations room said Pekan district currently has the highest number of evacuees at 11,154, followed by Temerloh (4,662), Maran (2,771), Bera (2,191), Kuantan (1,130) and Jerantut (988).

However, in Perak, the number of evacuees has risen by 105 from 5,637 this evening to 5,742 at night following intermittent rain in Perak Tengah.

A Perak National Security Council spokesperson said the victims were at 36 relief centres in five districts - Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah, Manjung and Hilir Perak.

He said the number in Manjung at night was 150, Hilir Perak (304), Kuala Kangsar (84) and Hulu Perak (606), while the number in Perak Tengah had risen to 4,598.

In Kelantan and in Johor, the numbers of evacuees remained at 5,602 and 20 respectively.

Johor prepares for possible third flood wave

A Kelantan Social Welfare Department spokesperson said the number of evacuees recorded in Kuala Krai now was 2,522, Gua Musang (2,076), Tanah Merah (810) and Machang (204).

In Johor, the State Disaster Operations Control Centre said the Kampung Batu Badak community hall in Segamat was still operating as a flood relief centre.

Johor is also making preparations to face a potential third wave of

floods in the state, with more agencies being bolstered to take part in the disaster management machinery.

Muhammed Kifli said new agencies from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission have been roped in to assist.

Azura said every district had also been asked to come up with an integrated staging asset plan to minimise logistics wastage. 

 

"We will coordinate the use of agency assets such as boats, lorries and trucks so that there will not be any overlapping in the aid process," she told Bernama in Johor Baru this evening.
