The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) will propose to the government to enable civil servants to make donation to flood victims through salary deduction.

Its president, Azih Muda said the proposal will be submitted to the chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa very soon.

"If possible, we hope the minimum amount of donation can be fixed at RM5, but we welcome any amount higher than that," he told Bernama after presenting Cuepacs' donation to flood victims today.

He said Cuepacs really hoped that the donation to flood victims through salary deduction for civil servants would be implemented starting this month.

Meanwhile, Azih said Cuepacs also called on the government to give a special allocation to provide school items, including uniforms, to schoolchildren whose families were affected by the floods.

"Many of them have no uniforms to wear to school. Those purchased earlier were destroyed by floods and they have no money to purchase new ones," he said, adding that the payment of parent-teacher association (PTA) fee should also be postponed.
