Situation in flood-hit states improving

Terengganu closed its one relief centre that had remained open until this morning while Sabah allowed more flood evacuees to return to their homes as the situation in the flood-hit states continued to improve.

In Terengganu, the relief centre in Kampung Durian Mentangau was closed at 10am after a family of seven was allowed to return home, said village development and security committee chairman Din Ismail.
In Sabah, 951 evacuees from 237 families in the Kudat and Kota Belud districts were allowed to return to their homes, leaving only 48 evacuees in Pitas.
In Pahang, the number of evacuees dropped slightly to 33,342 as at 2pm from 33,876 in the morning.
A spokesperson of the Pahang Police flood operations room said Temerloh district still had 13,829 evacuees; Pekan, 11,073; Bera, 2,687; Jerantut, 2,436; Maran, 2,149; Kuantan, 1,115 and Lipis, 53.
In Kelantan, the number of evacuees dropped to 8,682 from 9,175 this morning.
The Kelantan National Security Council (NSC) reported that Tanah Merah district had 1,150 evacuees; Kuala Krai, 3,094; Machang, 2,284 and Gua Musang, 2,154.
In Perak, the number of evacuees came down to 6,156 from 6,194 this morning.
A spokesperson of the Perak NSC said the number of evacuees in the Perak Tengah district was 4,851; Kuala Kangsar, 251; Hulu Perak, 610; Manjung, 155 and Hilir Perak, 289.
In Johor, there were only 48 evacuees in Segamat.
