PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub today admits that extensive logging in Kelantan may have contributed to the floods in the state but stresses that it is not the main factor.

PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub today admitted that extensive logging in Kelantan may have contributed to the floods in the state but stressed that it was not the main factor.
This, he said, is because other states also face severe flooding.
"That (logging) could be one of the factors. But we can't say that (it is the main factor).
"What is the reason for the big floods in Johor? What about Kemaman? Or in Pekan?" he told journalists at a press conference at the PAS headquarters this afternoon.
He was responding to a question if extensive logging in Kelantan had caused massive floods in the state.
Last week the Kelantan sultan also hinted at this when he called on his subjects to respect the environment or face the wrath of the floods.
“Let us be aware that all disaster problems that have occurred are the result of our own doings,” Sultan Muhammad V said in a royal message on Dec 28.
Salahuddin (left) urged a comprehensive study on why the country had faced unprecedented flooding this year.
"We need to put our resources together to ensure this does not repeat in future," he said.
Even though several states were plagued by the worst flooding in decades, the number of people displaced in Kelantan at its peak was over 150,000 people, five times more than Pahang and Terengganu.
For this purpose, he proposed a committee to be set up that should comprise individuals, NGOs and the National Security Council.

On a related matter, Salahuddin urged political parties not to use their logo when distributing aid to flood victims.
"Such labelling (on aid packages) needs to stop. Even PAS doesn't use the PAS logo when we go on our humanitarian missions.
“There is no need for any pictures (on the goods)," he said.
He appeared to be referring to the rice packs distributed by the government that bore the face of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Salahuddin also urged the federal government to pay oil royalties owed to the state to help in rebuilding efforts.
