A group which planned a rally in front of the home of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to demand his apology over the word 'Allah' did not turn up.
 
A check found that more than 20 police officers were patrolling the exit and entrance to the house of the chief minister in Jalan Pinhorn, here.
 
Timur Laut police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the group was nowhere to be seen.
 
"So far, the situation has been peaceful," he told reporters in George Town today.
 
Penang deputy police chief A Thaiveegan said banners which read 'Perhimpunan Desak Lim Guan Eng Mohon Maaf Atas Penggunaan Kalimah Allah' were seen in some places yesterday.
 
He said no official reports were received and THE police had identified the organisers and advised the public not to join the rally.
 
Rumours said the group will gather in front of the chief minister's house dressed in black dress after zohor (noon) prayers today.
 
On Dec 12, several news portals reported that Lim allowed non-Muslims in Penang to use the word 'Allah'.
 
He said the ban on the use of 'Allah' stated in the Penang Islamic Administration Enactment 2004 did not apply to non-Muslims in the state.
