Ailing PKR rep Dr Roland Chia today confirms that he will not quit his post as Inanam state assemblyperson.
 
Chia said he had been in consultation with family members, friends and supporters as well as top PKR leaders, including the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy president Azmin Ali.
 
“All of us, including grassroots members had discussed the matters concerning my health and well-being. They have exhorted me to hang on and to soldier on as Inanam’s elected representative.
 
“Hence, I have decided to continue my duties as the PKR state assemblyperson of Inanam,” he said in a statement today.
 
The PKR state representative said he would try his “utmost best” to meet the expectations of the people in Inanam.
 
He had earlier expressed his intention to resign as he was worried that he would not be able to serve the constituents of Inanam due to his medical condition.
 
“As my illness will continue as a thorn in my flesh, I weighed out my options with a heavy heart.
 
“It would be very unfair to my people in Inanam if I am unable to give them my best efforts,” he said.
 
Chia on Wednesday wrote on Twitter and Facebook that he would quit as Inanam assemblyperson due to health reasons.
 
Should Chia resign, this would pave the way for a by-election in the state of Sabah.
 
Chia won the seat with a majority of 3,202 votes at the 2013 general election in a three-cornered fight against candidates from PBS and SAPP.
