What more do you want, DAP asks MACC

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has no excuse not to investigate the award of the RM119 million Kapit road project as all information has been disclosed, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said.

The Bandar Kuching MP was responding to MACC deputy commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull (below) who urged him to provide more information, including on the alleged recipient and giver of the bribe.
Suspicions of corruption arose when the Song-Sungai Yong (package B) road project in Kapit tender was awarded via selected tender from the initial open tender, despite more than 50 companies already bidding.
"I have given the particulars of the project involved, how much the government is going to over-pay for the project (at least by RM20 million), the incredibility of a RM1 million capital company undertaking a RM119 million project and the unusual secret conversion of 'open tender' to 'selected tender',” he said in a statement.
"What more does MACC want or need from me?" asked Chong, who is also the Kota Sentosa assemblyperson.
He added that if he could not provide the MACC with financial transactions of the parties involved as this would be against Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (Bafia).
PKR MP Rafizi Ramli, who exposed the National Feedlot Centre scandal was charged under Bafia for publicising the banking details of National Feedlot Corporation's owners.
"It is only the MACC or the police who have the legal means to access to such information. So, why ask me for this information when the MACC knows full well that it is against the law for me to produce such information?"Chong asked.
A trap?
He also asked whether the MACC was setting a trap for him and if the anti-graft body is truly serious about investigating the matter.
"There is no additional information. It is for the MACC now to use its statutory power to get more information...to investigate the matter."
The MACC officers are still welcome to visit his office, he said.
Mohd Shukri had said that MACC investigations director Mohd Jamidan Abdullah, who earlier said he saw nothing wrong with the Kapit project award, had failed to reach Chong.
The RM119 million project was won by Impian Zaman Sdn Bhd, which stands to benefit RM20 million.
Malaysiakini has contacted Impian Zaman, but it did not to respond.
