PKR's Inanam assemblyperson Dr Roland Chia has informed the party of his intention to quit, secretary-general Rafizi Ramli confirmed with Malaysiakini today.
Rafizi said Chia had also written to inform that his medical condition was "serious" and he would this like to resign.
"We have advised him to discuss the matter with party leaders when he comes back from overseas at end of the year. As it is now, the status quo remains," Rafizi said.
Yesterday, Chia wrote on microblogging site Twitter and on his Facebook page that he would quit as the assemblyperson for Inanam due to health reasons.
However, he had yet to communicate the matter formally with his party or the Sabah PKR chapter.
Chia is currently overseas on what has been described as a "private" trip and will only return towards the end of the year.
Chia is a first term assemblyperson for Inanam.
