In response to the letter Home fire extinguisher proposal not hot, I would just like to say how shocked I am that the writer could have made such a such a statement

I do not think anyone is suggesting the general public fight fires instead of the Fire and Rescue Department. I do think he has totally missed the point here, which is that if every home did have a fire extinguisher in it, the chances of a family making it out alive in a blaze are far more better.

Also, many people in other countries such as the US and the UK have fire extinguishers in their homes even if they are small ones. There is not much difficulty in using them and they cost little more than RM50 at hardware stores.

A very small price to pay to ensure your family at least has a fighting chance in an inferno. Also, every home should have a smoke detector in order to warn occupants. To go even further, it is a good idea for every car to have a fire extinguisher.

The idea for fire extinguishers in homes is for people to be better prepared for when a fire does happen and to allow families a chance at surviving a fire while awaiting help.
