Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali says he is not slighted by the conferment of the Darjah Kebesaran Datuk Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) award, which carries the title 'Datuk' to two state executive councillors yesterday.

On the contrary, Azmin said, the award, which was given by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to state PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, were in recognition of their services

"I believe the two exco members have served the people of Selangor and were in line for honour and appreciation," he told reporters after attending an investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 69th birthday of the sultan at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.

He said this to comment on speculation prior to this that he would be in he list for a datukship award from the sultan after an award bearing the title 'Datuk Seri' was stripped off opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim effective Nov 3.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, also dismissed allegations that he did not receive any award this year because of the menteri besar post crisis triggered by PKR.

He said it was too early for him to get any award as he had been in office for only 80 days.

Meanwhile, the winner of a gold medal in sailing at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz, 18, said he was overwhelmed at receiving the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli Mahkota Selangor.

Ahmad Syukri, who was wheelchair-bound due to injury on his left foot, said he was impressed with the sultan, who came down from his throne to deliver the award to him.

Ahmad Syukri, who is sitting for a pre-diploma study in commerce at Universiti Teknologi Mara in Arau, Perlis said his focus was to win the gold medal in the SEA Games in Singapore next year.

He was among 102 recipients of awards during the ceremony.
