The president of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific, Dr Chuah Hean Teik, heads the five-member KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) independent audit committee named by the Transport Ministry today.

The others are Department of Civil Aviation director-general Azharrudin Abd Rahman, Public Works Department director-general Ir Annies Md Ariff, G&P Professionals Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr Ir Gue See Sew and Petronas general manager M Shobri Abu Bakar.

“The committee has been established to conduct a detailed investigation of the sinking surfaces at the apron and runway with the aim of ensuring safety at the airport,” said Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai after a working visit to the KLIA2 in Sepang today.

“I have given them until the first half of next year to complete the report and will take action based on it,” he added.

Liow also said the report would be made public and stern action taken against any party, if the report necessitates it.

Meanwhile, MAHB managing director Mohd Badlisham Ghazali said  three teams had started rectification works at the KLIA2 from June and it would last until the first quarter of 2016, without mentioning the total cost involved.
