The United States has enough internal problems and need not school Malaysia on human rights, Minister in the Prime Ministers’ Department Nancy Shukri.

US vice president Joe Biden and US ambassador to Malaysia Joseph Yun have both raised concerns over Malaysia’s decision to strengthen the Sedition Act.

“We actually know what needs to be done and what the rakyat hopes for, and need not the US’ assistance to come here and tells us what to do,” she was quoted as saying by Bernama.

She said that the US must first deal with the human rights transgressions in its detention camp at Guantanamo Bay before lecturing others.

“Do what you need in your country and leave us to the best in our country. If there are faults, let us discuss this ourselves and ensure that everyone complies to the law,” she said.

In a related matter, she said that discussions on the National Harmony Act will continue although the prime minister said the Sedition Act will not be repealed

The National Harmony Act was earlier said to replace the Sedition Act.

“As far as we know, the National Harmony Act will continue. The status of the Act is still under discussion among the relevant parties.

“We still need the National Harmony Act to strengthen harmony among Malaysians,” the newswire reported her as saying.
