Khazanah Nasional Bhd has appointed Christoph R Mueller as the chief executive officer (CEO)-designate of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS NewCo), effective Jan 1 next year.

Mueller, who is currently CEO of Aer Lingus Plc, the national airline of Ireland, will also be nominated to the Board of Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) as non-executive director.

In a statement yesterday, the government’s strategic investment fund said Mohammed Shazalli Ramly would be nominated to the MAS Board as non-executive director.

At the same time, Mohammed Shazalli will remain as CEO and director of Celcom Axiata Bhd.

The nominations of Mueller and Mohammed Shazalli to the MAS board of directors follow the appointment of Mohd Izani Ashari as non-independent non-executive director on Sept 12, 2014.

The MAS board, effective Jan 1, 2015, will comprise:
    
Md Nor Yusof (non-endependent non-executive chairperson);
Ahmad Jauhari Yahya (managing director/Group CEO);
Christoph R Mueller (CEO-designate/non-executive director);
David Lau Nai Pek (senior independent non-executive director);
Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah (non-independent non-executive director);
Mohd Shahazwan Mohd Harris (non-independent non-executive director);
Krishnan Tan Boon Seng (independent non-executive director);
Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani (independent non-executive director);
Sukarti Wakiman (independent non-executive director);
Mohamadon Abdullah (Independent non-executive director);
Mohd Izani Ashari (non-independent non-executive director);
Mohammed Shazalli Ramly (non-executive director); and,
Fauziah Yaacob (alternate director to Mohd Irwan Serigar/non-independent non-executive director).

On another development, Khazanah Nasional also announced the appointment of Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid as chairperson of the Corporate Reskilling Centre (CRC), which is scheduled to be launched by April 1, next year.

It said Shahryn Azmi named as CEO of the CRC, while Boonler Somchit was appointed as non-executive director and adviser to the CRC.

The appointments of Bashir, Shahryn and Boonler will be effective Jan 1, 2015.
