The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has ordered the MIC to hold fresh elections for its 23-member Central Working Committee (CWC) and three vice-president posts, according to sources.

With this, MIC is expected to postpone its annual general meeting at Putra World Trade Centre, beginning with its wings this Sunday and the assembly proper scheduled for Dec 13 and 14.

MIC secretary-general A Prakash Rao is scheduled to hold a press conference on this matter at the party's headquarters today.

A source said ROS officials handed over a letter outlining what needed to be done by the MIC to Rao at 6.30 pm yesterday.

The ROS had ordered the party to hold fresh elections for eight divisions, namely Bayan Baru, Bukit Gelugor, Subang, Bandar Baru Kulim, Taiping, Tambun, Sepang and Jasin.  

The ROS has been probing several complaints of irregularities during the MIC party elections on Nov 30 and Dec 1 last year.

The complainants, among others, wanted the ROS to nullify the results and order fresh polls for the CWC and vice-president posts.

There were also claims of irregularity concerning ballot papers for the vice-president posts.
