Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today repeated Lim Kit Siang's name for a record six times to drive home his point about DAP being in the grip of one man for decades.

He said this in response to Lim's political secretary Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, who had lambasted Khairy for claiming that DAP gave young Malays false hope.

She also said that Umno has not fielded anyone under the age of 35 in elections, unlike the era of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Countering this, Khairy pointed out that since 1969, Umno has had six presidents Tunku Abdul Rahman, Abdul Razak Hussein, Hussein Onn, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and now Najib Abdul Razak.

"Whereas DAP since 1969, only has Lim Kit Siang, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Kit Siang," he said.

The veteran leader first joined DAP back in 1965 and became its organising secretary three years later. He was party secretary general from 1970 to 1999. Soon after that he  was made party president until 2004. He is the current DAP Parliamentary Leader.

During his winding-up speech at the Umno general assembly on Saturday, Khairy had accused DAP, which he described as "that chauvinistic party" as luring Malay youths with false promises.

Singling out Dyana (left), he had said, "Some ask why that candidate (Dyana) managed to pull more Malay young women to join that chauvinist party."

"The answer is simple, because she was 'diangkat' (given prominence) by that chauvinist party.

"She was given hope although the hope was false," he added referring to Dyana being fielded as the DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election.

'Sedition Act to protect all'

Meanwhile, the youth and sports minister added that anyone who made seditious remarks that are inflammatory or incite hatred, should be investigated.
 
He was asked if Umno delegates Mashitah Ibrahim and Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said should be probed under the Sedition Act.

At the recent Umno AGM, Mashitah had alleged the Chinese community had burned the Quran. while Mohd Zaidi had said there were Chinese involved in illegal businesses in Penang.
 
Khairy came up with just a general response.
 
"The most important principle of the Sedition Act is that it is to  protect all Malaysians. It is not a piece of legislation that's there just to protect one community or one religion," he said, pointing out it was a shield for all Malaysians.
 
"So in the context of that, whatever the AG views as seditious, should be investigated," he held.
