'PAS is also propagation movement for Islam'

Pas tells Umno Kedah delegate Mashitah Ibrahim that PAS is not only a political party, but is also a propagation movement which accepts even artistes, as artistes can influence the people to make changes for the better.
PAS tells Umno Kedah delegate Mashitah Ibrahim that PAS is not only a political party, but also a propagation movement which accepts even artistes, as artistes can influence the people to make changes for the better.
PAS Kedah’s propagation bureau chief Mohd Azam Abd Samat said this in response to Mashitah’s speech during the recent Umno General assembly where she lambasted actors and singers who joined PAS who were allegedly promoted as “instant ustaz and ustazahs”.
“PAS is not only a political party but also a propagation movement (for Islam) said Mohd Azam, who is also the state assemblyperson for Sungai Limau in Kedah.
"Many of PAS followers are religiously educated and their presence is much felt by the public through talks, forums and the educating of the people.
"In fact, PAS president (Abdul Hadi Awang) and Spiritual leader (Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) are much respected ulamas internationally.
“PAS not only accepts artistes who want to better themselves, but PAS accepts anyone who wants to embrace a religious life.
“Mashitah, as a well known religious lecturer nationwide, should respect those who have yet to cover themselves (according to Islam) and those living in ignorance - whether they are the leaders of the country and their wives, creative people, artistes or the public.”
He further said that Mashitah, who was once attached to the prime minister’s department, should also suggest that the government provides space to artistes who seek enlightenment to be able to propagate the religion.
He believed that the emergence of artistes as public figures on the stages of propagation will influence their fans and the public towards change and create a better community.
“The government is urged to create more Islamic guidelines in entertainment programmes, dramas and films aired,” said Mohd Azam (right).
He said that the government has yet to allow dramas and films as propagation tools for the artistes.
Mashitah also made a stir at the Umno AGM when she alleged Kedah Chinese had torched pages of the Quran during a prayer ritual.
