'Umno should self-reflect, not obsess on DAP'

Umno has been told to stop its obsession with DAP and instead reflect on why the ruling party is "unable to rejuvenate".

Khairy during Umno's annual general assembly last Saturday played to the gallery claiming DAP was making use of Dyana and other Malay youth members and giving them "false hope"
"If anything, the DAP gives real opportunities to young talents who are capable and deserving.
"Hence, what Khairy calls “false hope” is actually true recognition by the party," said the young political secretary to DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.
"In contrast, did Umno even field anyone under the age of 35 in the last general election?
"With over 300,000 Puteri Umno members who are supposedly greater than me, how many were actually given an opportunity to contest?" she shot back.
She then illustrated that the reason why Umno is stuck trying to rejuvenate the party is because none of their leaders are willing to relinquish their power.
"Instead of taking potshots and obsessing over DAP at their general assembly, Umno should instead ask themselves why they are unable to rejuvenate.
“The answer is obvious, none of their leaders are interested in relinquishing their grip on power," said Dyana, whom Umno Wanita in their warmup to the AGM two weeks ago called an "instant noodle" leader.
She went on to elaborate that under Umno’s rule, the Malays are the ones being fed “false hope” by convincing them that they cannot survive without Umno, and not the other way around.
“(It) is Umno that has been giving false hope to the Malays by pretending to be their protector and torchbearer for over 50 years.
“While they claim that the survival of the Malay race is dependant on Umno, the truth is that is it Umno who cannot survive without the Malays, and not the other way around,” she stressed.
Dyana also pointed out that former prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman’s first cabinet actually had a few ministers under the age of 35.
The Umno AGM over the past week has regaled the nation with a larger than usual portion of racial bashing, with the Chinese-majority multiracial party DAP being its most prominent target.
'Najib has lost control'
Meanwhile, Selangor DAP publicity secretary Ronnie Liu lambasted Umno for the "narrow minded, extremist and racially" charged debates at the AGM and said that Najib had “lost control” of his power as Umno’s president.
Liu said ever since Malaysia’s independence, Umno has held direct control over the government’s administration, distribution of resources and wealth yet, the party has continued to colour a picture of Malay oppression by the Chinese.
"Najib once held a concept of ‘Melayu Glokal’, a new vision allowing Malays to compete with other races in this country and globally.
"Unfortunately, what took place at the AGM is otherwise. The debates of the representatives are so narrow-minded, extreme and full of racist sentiments.
“It seems Najib has lost control of his power as Umno's supreme leader and is incapable of carrying the party to a bright and glorious future. Even the proposed concept of ‘Melayu Glokal’ has now become an empty concept,” he said.
Liu, who was also a former Selangor exco member, asked has the time come to ask Najib, "What more does Umno want?"
